| A Good Read: Because Your Online Presence Matters |
An “about” page attempts to communicate with and reassure the visitor that its website is taken very seriously, and that it’s run by real people rather than by some weirdly coded script. In some marketing circles, an about page is one of the first things used to establish credibility on the Internet.
Anyone Can Claim to be Anything on the Internet
As you can imagine, anyone can claim to be anything on the Internet. But used correctly, an “about” page can work to squash any fears or suspicions that a potential customer may have with a new website.
Some of the tools you can use to establish credibility and honest intentions are:
- A mission statement
- A list of memberships that you or your company belongs to
- A description of your company’s history
- Staff bios
- Photographs of the staff
- Reprints of published articles
- Mention of a certification, degree, or specific skill
- A list of awards received
- Testimonials about your product(s)
These items of content will create an acceptable “about” page that seemingly lends some convincing credibility. Your mission declares your intentions, your company history gives you a little longevity, and your staff bios put some real people behind all that strange HTML code.

What about publishing whois data?
I suppose WHOIS data would be appropriate as well, Trmlev. Especially for tech types like you. ;-)
