Good dev vs Bad dev

I have played this game for years and most times I can spot a good developer from a bad one a mile away. The biggest issue is the markup some of these guys have, 400% for a simple web design is just too crazy.

The good developers can ask this much because their market isn't saturated, unlike some. Bad developers leak into this market, but rarely get very fair due to their inadequate work. It is down to the individual who is seeking their resources to distinguish which ones are worth the risk.

Re: Good dev vs Bad dev

I have no issues paying someone for what they are worth but when I can sit down and do the exact same job in an hours time, then see a dev online advertising the same thing for more it seems silly. It is not always about the work being done, yes sometimes its about the supply and demand. My problem is not paying someone an exorbitant amount of money because they have a busy schedule and are overloaded, that is their problem not mine.

If you can do the job in an hour, then it's pointless to pay for more than what an hour of your time is worth. The pricing however, is set by what THEY think THEIR time is worth and maybe they value their time more highly than you value your own?

Everyone puts a different price on their time. Workers in the western world charge much more than those in the east. This doesn't mean that either one is better than the other. However if you can do the job yourself and you have the time, why would you want to hire someone anyway?
