Credit card DENIED

Can you tell me what would cause my credit card to be denied? I was using it just fine all day and then suddenly the card came beck declined. Yeah I know this isn't your area I just thought you could shed the light on the situation.

That happened to me once with a debit card. Turns out the company put a limit on the number of purchases that can be made per day.
