Curious about outsourcing in various countries? Our book, “Outsourcing Through RentACoder” explains it all. Below are a few selected snippets that describe its importance and why you, as an outsourcer, should care.

For details, head on over to this page and order the book. Outsourcing Through RentACoder is a 418 page step-by-step user guide for entrepreneurs who want to reduce their workload and increase productivity at the same time.

Excerpts:

  • No one can deny the fact that done without regard for national economic security, outsourcing can cost a country millions of jobs. Yet supporters contend that outsourcing lowers manufacturing costs, lowers prices, and helps decrease the cost of living. (page 43)
  • According to a March 2004 edition of USAToday, “Employees working in foreign countries for U.S. companies are generally not covered by U.S. employment laws, which cover such issues as sexual harassment, age discrimination and worker safety. (page 44)
  • Domestic outsourcing is when both an outsourcing company and its independent contractor(s) are located in the same country. One of the main reasons for outsourcing is to reduce costs, but it’s not always necessary to send work overseas in order to save money. (page 62)
  • At the time of this writing for example, 20% of the site’s workforce exists in India, 14% in America, 11% in Pakistan, and 9% in Romania – a little over half of a huge 300+ country buffet. (page 76)
  • The exact liability laws of your state will differ from those in another state or country, so you’re strongly advised to check what responsibilities you can legally dodge before amending RentACoder’s contract. (page 95)
  • RentACoder hosts an uncountable number of foreign service workers, and unless you specifically choose to work with a coder in your own country, you’re bound to run into a contractor from anywhere around the world. (page 101)
  • Individuals who live in countries that are prohibited from engaging in U.S. economic activities for example, cannot participate – and neither can individuals who RentACoder deems as direct competitors or individuals whose participation would cause a conflict of interest. (page 124)
  • Sorting is helpful when you want to quickly find the highest rated coder, the highest ranking coder, or the lowest (or highest) bidding coder. You can additionally sort by bid date, coder’s name, coder’s city, coder’s country, and message count. (page 228)
  • Although we strongly recommend that you work with coders in your own country, you must accept the fact that the most qualified coder may be overseas. Don’t let patriotism trump quality. (page 231)
  • Lowered costs is the number one reason why businesses outsource overseas. Labor rates in countries outside of the U.S. are significantly lower than what they are here at home, and the same goes for RentACoder bids from the same regions. (page 258)
  • Holidays, traditions, and simple cultural differences can cause problems as well. What’s deemed appropriate in one country can be gravely offensive in another. (page 260)
  • As innocent as your messages might be, you just might offend a foreign coder with questions about his/her country or lifestyle. Since none of that matters in an outsourcing project anyway, keep your outsourcing relationship professional and save the curious chat for your friends. (page 372)
