Online Success — What’s Required?

If you’ve ever toyed with the idea of leaving your current job in pursuit of a flexible job that you’re in total control of… If you’ve dreamed of abandoning company cultures or dealing with co-workers you can’t stand to be around…

If you’ve wished you could reduce transportation costs, clothing and eating allowances and most especially, free yourself from the worries of stress and tension encountered at the everyday workplace… You’ve probably considered running your own business. Online.

Well, before your eyes gloss over with ideas of running an internet-based business, you’ve got to get a reality check first.

Read Is the Internet Marketing Niche Bubble About to Burst? to learn more about prevalent scams.

Despite what you may have heard, running a successful online business is not any easier than running a successful offline business. Nor is it any easier to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars “in your sleep.” Don’t believe the hype that tries to lure you with too-good-to-be-true fantasies. The economy is down and the scams are up. So the minute you see anything that resembles the “be a millionaire in 1 month” motto – disregard it immediately.

No success comes easy. Only those who have a perfect combination of events and ideal attitudes toward work become successful. And you need only study business history to see for yourself. Don’t get it wrong… we’re not trying to scare you away from your dreams… we just want you to be aware of some risks that you would face sooner or later anyway. These are risks that are inevitable parts of running any business online or off.

One significant reality is that you’ll face is the loss of a fixed source of income. This is of course, assuming that you’re planning to leave your current place of employment in hopes of chasing down an internet business dream.

You must be prepared for not only an initial period of losses, but subsequent periods of losses as well. Why?

There’s no guarantee that Internet sales will keep coming. You’ll have good and bad months. In fact, the only real guarantee is that you’ll always have to deal with unpredictable trends — making your ability to take risks more important than ever. If taking risks is an uncomfortable idea, stick to the security and fixed source of income that your present job currently offers.

Another reality is that as an online entrepreneur, the internet business becomes your life. Work becomes an obsession, and fatigue and burnout are real consequences. In fact, weeks or even months of unrest are a hard-to-accept reality until you’ve established a reputation for yourself and realize that you’ve finally accomplished something. Online success takes work — more work than you may be aware of.

Fortunately, you don’t have to face your dreams alone. There are a lot of people who are willing to help you accomplish the mountain of tasks required to become a successful entrepreneur. These people are called outsourcing service providers. Our book, “Outsourcing Through RentACoder” describes not only how to find them, but how to work with them as well, just so that you can become successful and reduce your workload at the same time.
