The Economy is in a Full-Swing Recovery

If you needed more proof that the economy is in a full-swing recovery, a new report that shows more companies are looking to hire recruiters should help to convince you.

Recent data from Wanted Analytics found that more than 5,800 job openings for recruiter positions were posted during April. That means hiring for recruiters has increased by 10 percent over the last year, and by 33 percent over the last two years.

So what does this have to do with the economic recovery?

First of all, you have to take into account why companies are ramping up hiring of recruiters so much. It’s true that some businesses hire more workers during the summer months, but aside from that, the only explanation is that these companies are getting ready to bring on new workers, and they need professional recruiters to help them find the best candidates out there.

Technology Has Changed, and So Have the Skills

If you’re looking for a recruiting job, but have recently left your current position or have been out of the market for a while, it’s important to note that as technology has changed over the last several years, so have the main skills that employers are looking for in a recruiter.

According to the report, the top 10 skills that employers want in a new recruiter include:

  1. The ability to use the whole Microsoft Office suite, which includes Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  2. Familiarity with Oracle Human Resources Information Systems.
  3. The ability to use Customer Relationship Management tools.
  4. Familiarity with a variety of word processing software.
  5. The ability to use Applicant Tracking Software.
  6. Experience with data mining.
  7. Experience with candidate tracking techniques.
  8. Familiarity with all of the popular social networking sites.
  9. The ability to use contact management software.
  10. Experience using workforce management software.

Where You Live vs Where They’re Hiring

You also should take into account where you live and where employers are hiring recruiters the most. If you don’t live in one of the areas where hiring for recruiters is skyrocketing, you might want to consider relocating if that’s an option.

According to the report, the top five areas for finding a recruiting job during April were:

  1. New York, N.Y.
  2. Chicago, Ill.
  3. Los Angeles, Calif.
  4. Dallas, Texas
  5. Washington, D.C.

It’s important to note that while New York had the highest number of job openings for recruiters, that number was actually a 1 percent decrease over the year. At the same time, the number of job openings for recruiters in Dallas has grown by 27 percent over the last 12 months.
