Don’t forget to read A Theory Behind Producing New Ideas too. There’s lots of good stuff in there! |
We’re not quite sure what all the sudden fuss is about, but we’re seeing a frequent number of blog articles speak to the difficulty of coming up with fresh, new content ideas. That’s a difficulty we find a bit hard to swallow. Not just because we’re writers (among other things), but because we’re naturally blessed with insane, ADHD-like fleeting mind matter that throws ideas at us as if we’re being punished for something.
When we hear concerns about ‘drawing a blank,’ in fact, our initial response is, “Seriously?” Coming up with content ideas is never a problem for us. Finding the time to publish them, however, is. But that’s a separate issue. Here, we’re going to share with you one of the easiest ways to find fresh, new content ideas for your blog. All you need is a page of existing content, and your brain.
Seriously.
Step 1
Read a page of existing content and scour the thing for nouns and/or noun phrases (i.e. content ideas). Look for things people would search for if they were at Google instead of your website or blog. Forget about keywords. You can mess with those later. Right now, you just want to find things in your content that look like they would link to other pages if only those pages existed!
Need an example? Consider the following PLR content:
Consultants on alternative energy also tell us that we need multilateral, international efforts in concert with one another in the direction of getting away from the heavy—almost total—dependence on fossil fuels. They are poised to become too expensive, burning them is polluting the atmosphere, and digging for them is disrupting the natural environment.
There are a bunch of nouns and noun phrases in that content that people would search for. There are a bunch of nouns and noun phrases that could link to great content if it existed too! You’ve got consultants, alternative energy, international efforts, dependence, etc., blah, blah, blah. You get the point.
Step 2
Develop content that addresses the nouns and noun phrases you found in your existing content, and when finished, link to it from the previous page. This content can be text, pictures, video, whatever. It doesn’t really matter what kind of content it is, just as long as your readers find it interesting and valuable.
Step 3
Repeat Step 1, only this time, note the verbs and/or verb phrases (i.e. content ideas) that people would search for if they were at Google instead of your website or blog. Again, stop worrying about keywords. Now isn’t the time. Instead, focus on the actions that your content talks about.
Here’s another example if you need it:
Physical and mental exercises must be administered to keep the patient’s strength up and even help depression, which is another symptom commonly, associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Whenever the people visit, it is best for each person to stay in the line of sight of the patient. It is best to speak slowly and even hold on to the individual, which is known to make the sufferer remember who he or she is talking to.
The verb phrases be administered, help depression, stay in the line of sight, and speak slowly, could link to great content if only it existed. Starting to get the picture?
Step 4
| Download and use our Windows Linkto software program to make all this stuff just a little bit easier. |
As you did in Step 2, write content about the actions you found, and then link to that content from the previous page. Again, use text, pictures, video, and whatever else it takes to explain how to complete the actions that you found.
By the time you finished, you will have created new content and new internal links. Google will love you, and the sun will shine a little brighter.
Seriously.
