Just Outsourcing’s primary focus is on the way online outsourcing operates and opens up unique business venues. Its secondary focus zeros in on the most popular online outsourcing services available.

But since thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of businesses brave the outsourcing storm without the protections that many of those services provide, we thought we would write a little bit about getting legal outsourcing help should you, like others, decide to ‘go it alone.’

Lawyers are Team Players Too

In Preparing the Outsourcing Team, we indicated several different types of team players and why you’d want them on your side. The legal consultant is an important contributor, and s/he’s responsible for managing the negotiation process and ensuring your outsourcing contract addresses everything from simple copyright protection to damage control procedures.

So two keys to working with an effective lawyer are one, hiring a consultant that specializes in outsourcing, and two hiring a lawyer before you outsource.

The business lawyer addresses business laws. The tax lawyer addresses tax laws. But because neither focus on contracting exclusively, they won’t be very helpful when you’re trying to figure out how to rectify a copyright infringement, or when you’re confused about how to legally end a contract before it’s up. They won’t be very helpful when they’re hired after you signed a contract riddled with disadvantageous loopholes either.

Lawyers are No Exception to the Rule

Like outsourcing advisors, outsourcing lawyers are easy to find through a simple Internet search. You should know by now, however, an easy search doesn’t always yield ‘easy to hires’ or ‘work withs,’ nor does it mean that what you find is even qualified. Finding the right outsourcing lawyer can be as laborious as finding the right service provider.

That means you’re going to have to vet (and vet strong), verify references, and do everything else you would do when hiring a member to join your professional outsourcing team. Lawyers are no exception to this rule! So start your search here, and good luck!
