Customers Prefer Google Over Yahoo

If you haven’t already, register a username for yourself so you can discuss this topic in our Search Engine Marketing forum.

In (yes) another unofficial poll, we discovered a whopping 93% of surveyed individuals prefer using Google over Yahoo. Two percent of surveyed individuals preferred Yahoo, while another two percent preferred both. While this isn’t particularly surprising, the reasons behind these preferences are interesting, and could influence your business decisions.

Behind The Preference

From this data, we can see Google’s ease of use is most influential, with its capabilities (tools, innovation, etc.) following close behind. The two least most influential factors are Google’s market share and optimization/indexing opportunities.

Google:
Is easier to use 28%
Provides more capabilities (translation, etc.) 21%
Provides accurate and numerous results 14%
Is more popular 09%
Is faster 07%
Has a larger market share 04%
Is better at optimization and indexing opportunities 02%

What It All Means To You

Surveyed individuals quoted easy access to information and user friendliness as Google’s topmost strengths. So why not incorporate the same in your website and emulate Google~success? Could your website be a bit more user friendly? Could it provide easier access to information as well? You might gain more visitors by making it as friendly and easy to use as Google is.

You might increase your viewership by refocusing your efforts as well. Are you concentrating on gaining a larger market share when you should be concentrating on delivering more accurate and focused results? Are you unnecessarily worried about the speed of your website when visitors really want to know how they can share what you’ve got with others?

These are just a few ways you can own a piece of Google’s success. You don’t have to be Google to be successful, but you can at least note what makes its site so overwhelmingly popular, and then apply your findings to your own dot com dominion.

One More Thing

We created a database program that can help you keep track of your outsourcing projects and coders. It’s currently in beta stage, but you’re welcome to download it and give it a test run. We’ll appreciate your feedback as we work on its improvement..
