I didn’t remember signing up for one of Microsoft’s newsletters, so I decided to toss the latest issue I received into GMail’s spam bin cause I was too lazy to unsubscribe. (No offense Microsoft, it’s me – not you.) That’s when I saw the following pop-up box:

Clipboard03

The box asked me if I’d like to unsubscribe from the newsletter and report the email as spam. I never noticed this feature before when I sent other messages to the spam bin, so I decided to see if this was a company-specific feature. I tossed a different newsletter into the spam bin, but didn’t get the same message. I tried another, and another, and another to no avail.

So I’m wondering…

Is this new?  Is this normal?  Does Google know I”m lazy?  Is this some weird arrangement between Google and Microsoft?  Or is this a convenience Google was kind enough to provide on its own?  Or is it really some transparent plot to minimize Microsoft’s newsletter subscribers? Why does it only work with Microsoft’s junk and not Amazon’s junk or anyone else’s junk? Clues appreciated on what is apparently, the most boring Sunday I’ve ever encountered.

Update!

I just got the same message for a different subscription: geeks.com! Looks like this is something Google rolled out (or, is rolling out) in secret!
