Outsourcing Evaluation (Book Excerpts)

If you haven’t already, register a username for yourself so you can discuss this topic in our Book Discussion forum.

Curious about outsourcing evaluation? Our book, “Outsourcing Through RentACoder” explains it all. Below are a few selected snippets that describe its importance and why you, as an outsourcer, should care. For details, head on over to this page and order the book. Then complement what you find here with the content in our growing outsourcing articles library (the book’s ‘online extension’).

Outsourcing Through RentACoder (now, vWorker) is a 418 page step-by-step user guide for entrepreneurs who want to reduce their workload and increase productivity at the same time.

Excerpts:

  • Once you have a general idea of your financial super strength, you can start evaluating your liabilities, risks, and doubts. (page 92)
  • To minimize your risks, that is – to ensure your project will be completed by a competent coder, you’ll need to spend sufficient time evaluating profiles and portfolios. (page 102)
  • RentACoder doesn’t do things like tax withholding, bookkeeping, sick and vacation days, hiring, firing, evaluation, health insurance, or 401Ks. Nor does it hire and dispatch workers independent of a company’s business. These activities are HR activities. (page 137)
  • Having some of your outsourcing team members look at specific parts of each proposal or bid will save days of tedious evaluation. (page 213)
  • Quite frankly, there’s really no way to prove the claims made in a coder’s area of expertise or resume — not at the evaluation stage anyway. (page 234)
  • A 10 rating indicates excellence in eight different positive evaluation points and a 1 rating indicates failure in two negative evaluation points. A coder’s current rating is the average of all ratings received. (page 242)
  • As we said in the beginning, there are compelling reasons why buyers negotiate with coders, and if you find yourself in a negotiation rut, re-evaluate what you’re fighting for. (page 269)
  • The most important piece of documentation in a Pay for Deliverables arbitration is the contract or bid request. In fact, the bid request is the first thing that an arbitrator looks at when evaluating an arbitration case. (page 342)
  • You should have an overall inkling of how the submission should look and behave – especially if you regularly communicated with your coder and if you evaluated your coder’s work in stages. (page 350)
