Database Description
The main interface is what you’ll see as soon as you start one of our user-friendly databases. All of the elements you need to store and manage your data are found on this screen. Only when you prefer to work in table view, will the interface look different. |
From the File menu, you can: 1) import records from an external comma delimited ASCII file, 2) export records to an external comma delimited CSV file, or 3) print your data in a tabular format. The exit menu item closes the database. NOTE: The format of an imported ASCII file must match the database it’s being imported into. |
The Print dialog box opens when you select the Print menu item from the File menu. Since this dialog box uses your operating system’s protocol, you’ll use it the same way that you use the Print dialog box from within your word processing application or graphic editing program. |
From the Edit menu, you can go to a specific record, delete an entire collection of data, or view your data in table view. If you select “Delete Database,” be aware that this function will delete your entire collection of data. If you only want to delete a single record instead, select the delete button at the bottom of the database’s screen. |
From the Go To Record menu item, you can enter a record number and work with the data contained within that specific record. |
From the Table View menu item, you can see all of your data in table form. The VCR-style navigation bar below the table incudes buttons for viewing and modifying the database you’re working with. If a table’s column width isn’t wide enough to display all the content in a field, you can drag its edges to a width that’s more comfortable to work with. |
From the Help menu, you can access our website’s support page. |
From the Options button, you can print or search for information within the currently displayed record. The print funtion from the Options button is different from the print function on the File menu. This print function will print the currently displayed record only. |
You can locate information within the database that you’re working with by clicking a field name and then entering search criteria. The database will display the first instance of the criteria it finds. Unlike the search function available from the Options button above, this search function searches an entire collection of data, rather then the just the currently displayed record. For full drescriptions of ALL functions, see our support page. |
