Outsourcing Bids

If you haven’t already, register a username for yourself so you can discuss this topic in our Book Discussion forum.

Curious about outsourcing bids? Our book, “Outsourcing Through RentACoder” explains it all. Below are a few selected snippets that describe its importance and why you, as an outsourcer, should care.

For details, head on over to this page and order the book. Then complement what you find here with the content in our growing outsourcing articles library (the book’s ‘online extension’). Outsourcing Through RentACoder is a 418 page step-by-step user guide for entrepreneurs who want to reduce their workload and increase productivity at the same time.

Excerpts:

  • Creating a contractor account and bidding on a few jobs will give you a real idea of things from the “coder point of view!” (page 31)
  • If a coder is too busy to accept a job, s/he will cancel an invitation to bid on another job, or cancel a bid s/he made when s/he wasn’t so busy. (page 32)
  • Through RentACoder, coders essentially bid on a job and buyers select a coder based on specific criteria – similar to the way independent contractors bid on a construction job of some sort and companies hire one based on the same standards. (page 41)
  • It penalizes or flags them with a low rating as a way to say, “Hey coders, this guy may not be serious about hiring you — so think twice about submitting a bid.” (page 89)
  • RentACoder doesn’t accept every bid request it receives and we describe some types of unacceptable bid requests in a later chapter. For now, it’s important to know that because RentACoder may refuse your particular job request, it’s a potential risk. (page 101)
  • RentACoder’s Expert Guarantee protection brings committed and capable coders to the forefront with a coder-initiated deposit. I.E., a RentACoder contractor who wishes to demonstrate his/her dedication and skills prior to winning a contract will deposit a percentage of a project’s maximum bid (proposed cost). (page 119)
  • Just like with member profiles, RentACoder’s bid requests are publically accessible as well. And they too, are accessible through search engines. (page 122)
  • To enforce a non-compete clause in your RentACoder contract, you’ll need to insert it as an amendment. We show you how to do that when you’re ready to create your first bid request. (page 158)
  • Should a contractor transfer his/her nondisclosure or confidentiality agreement to a company that bought him/her out, the new owner has to abide by the terms in the same agreement. (page 161)
  • You can always read through the material first to familiarize yourself with the entire process, and then venture off to create a bid request. (page 171)
  • Non-specific bid requests are the epitome of bad contracts and they’re additionally the major causes for arbitration. We’ve seen some bid requests so scant of information, they had our heads swimming with all sorts of suspicious thoughts! (page 181)
  • The bidding close date gives coders a deadline in which they can place a bid for your project. RentACoder automatically places a two-week default deadline in this field for you, but you’re free to change it to any value that you want. (page 199)
  • After indicating a deadline, you might want to think about where your ideal coder should work from. There are a few reasons why you’ll want to solicit bidders from a specific location. (page 203)
  • After posting a bid request, you may get responses sooner than expected. RentACoder is just kind of cool like that. You might also get waaay more bids than you expected too. (page 212)
  • You’ll notice bids will range from being highly professional to down-right personal. You may even notice a few bids that are plain bizarre. This is to be expected when you solicit over 260,000 people and the fact that you’re soliciting them online – through RentACoder – makes no difference at all. You’d run into the same conundrum offline as well. (page 224)
  • The last step of selecting a bid winner entails looking at a few samples. We walk you through the process of accessing and analyzing those samples so that by the time it’s all said and done, you’ll have a definite bid winner in mind and you’ll know you made the right choice. (page 257)
  • By the time you start thinking about negotiating, you’re really thinking about what it’s going to take to hold on to a fantastic coder you found. Something in her/his bid has you excited. (page 267)
  • Prevent Spartan battles by scouring bids and resolving potential causes of war. Look for processes that conflict with dependent processes, scheduling, or communications. (page 268)
  • Some buyers ask for sample work in their bid requests but we don’t recommend that you do the same. (page 270)
  • If you’re using RentACoder on behalf of your place of employment, documenting your activity with bids “by date” might be required. (page 309)
