The Job Board Onslaught: A Speculative Warning

2010: The Year of Job Board Scripts and Scams

Thanks to a faltering economy, the online outsourcing industry has been inundated with an onslaught of "job boards" since 2010, which on the surface, sounds like a good thing. People lose jobs, the Internet gives them back. It's a sweet deal for those with skills easily transferrable to the electronic environment and those with resources needed to maintain a virtual working platform.

But there are some serious problems with these rising "opportunities" that are just too hard to ignore.

Problem #1: Job Boards Lack Regulation

Job boards, for the most part, run free of regulation. I say 'for the most part,' because a few legitimate ones, like vWorker, regulate themselves. Legitimate job boards operate under a registered business license for example, they exist in approved zones, they're bonded and insured, and they're registered with the Better Business Bureau.

On the Internet, things change. A "business" becomes a business the minute someone slaps up a website with its own domain name, and that unfortunately includes the job board business. There may be legal requirements to fulfill, but few fulfill them. There may be laws to obey, but few obey them. Even fewer comply with industry or ethical standards in this country or any other, which is what makes the web the touch-and-go situation that it is.

In fact, the only thing stopping "Jane" from giving "John" her credit card information in this environment, is her own common sense and savvy consumerism. In times of desperation however, even Jane can be swindled.

Problem #2: Employment Scams are on the Rise

According to recent news reports, recession-related scams flourished this past year, prompting consumer watch dogs to issue warnings non-stop. Of particular concern are warnings against employment scams, where jobless hopefuls pay a fee of some sort in an effort to find work that may never come. Below, you can see how those reports significantly increased within the last two years.

Data secured from a date-ranged Google news search

Problem #3: Anyone Can Run a Job Site

A significant interest in free job board scripts skyrocketed in a similar pattern. Anyone can run a job site and gain access to sensitive data (names, addresses, social security numbers, credit card numbers, etc.) with just a computer, internet connection, and a simple cgi or php job board script. That means the brand new job board you might have heard about, the one with the cute Web 2.0 name and hokey interface, could be in the hands of a snot-nosed 13 year old who can't even keep his room clean, but can surely wreak havoc with private info.

Even worse, it could be in the hands of someone who's under no obligation, legally or ethically, to follow U.S. laws or accommodate your rights as a consumer.

I don't know about you, but to me, that's a bit concerning.

Look at how the interest in job board scripts shot up to almost double from 2009:

Admittedly, the implied correlation is drenched in speculation. I probably could have come up with a similar correlation between employment scams and babies born with alien-shaped birthmarks. But when I look at the number of search results that demonstrate interest in job board scams, I notice a dramatic jump within the last year as well. In a single decade, the number of searches for job board scams increased from 15,300 in 2000 to 396,000 in 2010. Compared to 2009, interest increased 32 times in 2010, while two years prior, it rose by just a small percentage in 2008 from 2007.

So just what does all of this mean, exactly?

Is it too presumptuous to suspect a relationship between the number of searches for job board scripts and scams? (Within the same year!) Would it be equally presumptuous to suspect a relationship between the number of searches for exploding cell phones and ear surgeries? How about malfunctioning iPads and requests for refunds? Answers can be found in questions, and that's what this article tries to provide.

Solution

While you, the outsourcer, aren't perusing job boards for employment, you are perusing them for paid solutions. Don't throw caution into the wind -- not when we could be facing a trending scam. I strongly advise you to outsourcer your projects to a well-established outsourcing service only, and let all of these new pop-up job boards earn their keep the old-fashioned way, like their predecessors did.

When in doubt, match a job board's physical address and phone number with data supplied by Google maps. Google won't list a company that doesn't verify its address and phone number. Then hop over to the Better Business Bureau and note how a job board in question responds to complaints. If that isn't enough, wait 3 - 4 months before using a new job board while you search forums and complaint boards for more insight. While no business is perfect, these simple steps can prevent a very unfortunate experience.

2010 End-of-Year Analysis

This passing year has been, without a doubt, an eye-opening year on several fronts, and if you paid any attention to what's been going on in the online outsourcing industry, you already know what I'm talking about. From the onslaught of micro-payment outsourcing services to major revamps and acquisitions, online outsourcing made quite a splash in 2010, indicating a growing interest in what was once, a quiet day-to-day business.

This, in the midst of a recession!

Fueling the fire of course, were not only the benefits of outsourcing, but the increasing awareness of those benefits as well. I have never seen so many people inquire about online outsourcing than I did in the entire year of 2010.

People asked important questions, sought opinions, compared services, and shared experiences across a plethora of networked blogs, feeds, and updates -- furiously spreading word about anything and everything there is to share. And while there were oftentimes moments of information overload, I feel confident that two major feats were accomplished.

1. The truth about what outsourcing options are available surfaced among a deep sea of misleading information, miscommunication, and confusion.

2. Competition challenged the status quo (among some) and prompted a few beneficial changes for everyone involved.

So what does all this mean, and how does it affect you as an outsourcer?

It means that in 2011, online outsourcing will become an integral part of your business activities whether you want it to or not -- if it hasn't already. The buzz is out there thanks to the passing year, and no one in their right mind is going to let it dissipate into thin air.

Microsoft's push toward cloud development, for example, will compel you to exploit outsourcing just as commonly and as frequently as you currently exploit online shopping, Google, or any other computer-based commodity. A definite cloud infrastructure isn't here yet, but it's philosophy is hitting home. And that's a philosophy drenched with the principles of outsourcing.

I won't dare try to detail what 2011 will present. What I will do instead, is bid the 5th anniversary of my services as a provider farewell, and welcome 2011's new inventions, technologies, procedures, and adjustments. We live in interesting times, and I believe 2011 will adequately demonstrate just how far we're able to push that interest.

Join me as I talk more about online outsourcing through SitePoint’s up and coming sister site, “Learnable,” and stick around. "You ain't seen nuthin' yet."

-Nicole

Risk Analysis Action Plan

The following is a risk analysis plan that???s usually applied to software development, but certainly appropriate for outsourcing projects since both depend on collaboration. Use it to develop appropriate responses to things like delays, budget cuts, and non-participation.

Risks To Schedule Estimates

Action to take if you discover your project can't be completed in the specified time:

Action to take if a delay in one task delays other tasks:

Action to take if marketing results in development decisions that lengthen the schedule:

Action to take if budget cuts occur:

Action to take if equipment is not available, or, is available - but inadequate:

Action to take if development tools do not work as expected:

Risks To End-User Involvement

Action to take if end-user input is not solicited:

Action to take if end-user refuses to participate:

Action to take if end-user is unable to participate due to incompatibly issues:

Action to take if end-user's feedback response time is slower than anticipated:

Action to take if end-user insists on new requirements:

Action to take if end-user has expectations you can't meet:

Action to take if end-user finds project to be unsatisfactory:

Risks To Using Contracted Work

Action to take if qualified service provider is not available:

Action to take if qualified service provider does not want the job:

Action to take if qualified service provider is available only part-time:

Action to take if qualified service provider works slower than expected:

Action to take if qualified service provider delivers components of low quality:

Action to take if qualified service provider delivers components that have to be improved:

Action to take if qualified service provider does not deliver components on time:

Action to take if qualified service provider quits:

Action to take if qualified service provider is hired late in project:

Risks To Requirements/Development

Action to take if additional requirements are added:

Action to take if requirements continue to change:

Action to take if project will run in an unfamiliar environment:

Action to take if multiple compatibility routines are required:

Action to take if development tools are not in place on time:

Action to take if project is dependent upon technology still under development:

Action to take if development tools need work-arounds, or if new tools are needed:

Action to take if technology repeatedly causes errors:

Forming a team to research and solve a problem is the right thing to do in the face of a challenge, but it isn???t always the right approach to every situation.

To get the best possible results, individuals must ask themselves, ???Is a team appropriate at this time????

Unfortunately, when people assume the answer to that question is yes, without thoroughly considering things like requirements, goals, resources, and time, they start the team building process right away ??? ultimately planning an imperfect strategy before they even get started.

This article poses five questions you should ask before creating a team.

Requirements

Does your project really require a team? This is perhaps the most important question you???ll ask.?? We all value collaboration and teamwork ??? but they don???t have to go together. There???s a big difference between putting people on a team, and asking them to help on an as-needed basis. Perhaps the latter strategy could be a better fit for your problem.??

Goals

Is the goal clear? Never form a team when a goal isn???t crystal clear. A team can develop a problem statement and solve a problem, but they can???t apply that statement or solution to a goal that isn???t clearly defined.?? Once a goal is clear, you can continue on.

Resources

Will the team have the resources they need to succeed? If not, will you be the person to provide those resources? Teams are effective when they know what they have to work with. That includes skills, budget, time, support and more. A lack of resources could push teams toward creative, out-of-the-box solutions, however it???s a risk. A lack of resources could contribute to frustration and low productivity as well.

Importance

How important is your problem? Not all projects or problems are created equal, so you might want to consider your situation???s importance before dedicating those resources.?? Think about your overall plan and see where the problem fits into your big picture. Then ask yourself, ???Does this problem have to be solved now? What would happen if its solution were delayed????

Time

Is there time? It can take a lot of time to form a team, especially if you???re working on a large project.?? Is there time for all that, relative to the need for a solution or answer? To get an idea of just how much time it takes to form an outsourcing team, check out ???Preparing the Outsourcing Team.??? Through that link, you???ll learn even more about the team building process and whether or not it???s a feasible strategy for you. Then check out our Outsourcing Collaboration Tool for a database management approach should you decide the answer is, ???yes.???

You Don???t Know Outsourcing

Andertoons Science Cartoons
Spend any decent amount of time using any or all of the popular outsourcing services online, you???ll swear you???ve seen and done it all.
Spend the same amount of time in the same places, you???ll come to acknowledge there???s always more to learn about how the outsourcing industry operates.

It???s a confounding phenomenon that rings true from either perspective.

Outsourcing online isn???t rocket science after all, but the industry manages to continuously bring forth innovations which topple what we think is carved into stone.

Did you know...

Did you know, for instance, that there???s a way to verify a service provider???s skills? I don???t mean by looking at a degree or certificate of some sort. I mean by checking out actual test scores...

Did you know there???s a way to guarantee originality in your outsourced project and completely obliterate the chance for plagiarism? (There is!)

What about knowing the difference between outsourcing and outtasking? One of those activities dictates a job???s ???what??? and ???how??? (and the other shouldn???t). And labor arbitrage? Did you know there???s a way to get the same quality out of an inexpensively priced project as if you had paid hundreds or even thousands of dollars for it?

Using outsourcing can be a little bit like using computers. At one moment, you can think it???s so easy, a child could master it. Then when a unique problem or situation arises, you suddenly realize you might not know as much as you once thought you did.

Outsourcing is a growing industry, and while its entirety may not be mastered within a week, month, or even a year, it can be understood and manipulated in advantageous ways without having to secure a four-year management degree.

One way to do just that is to attend an outsourcing seminar.

You Gotta 'Know Someone'

Through an outsourcing seminar, you can get answers to questions you always had, but didn???t know who to ask or perhaps weren???t too comfortable asking. You can learn how to avoid critical mistakes, enforce contracts, and reduce risks while building a team of professional online service providers in half the time it would take to vet just one, offline.

And because seminars are small, you get to enjoy an intimate setting in which everyone participates, ultimately expanding knowledge from different points of view.

To find an outsourcing seminar nearest you, you can pour through your local classified ads, college bulletin boards, or even Craigslist for leads. Chances are, unfortunately, you won't find what you're looking for. Seminars of this genre are typically plugged in high-end business circles. You gotta "know someone who knows someone" in other words.

This Outsourcing Seminar is Online

Lucky for you, you already "know someone," and that someone is Nicole Miller, author of 'Outsourcing Through RentACoder.' In January 2011, Nicole will teach an online class about outsourcing over the Internet through SitePoint's up and coming sister site ???Learnable.???

Through this course, you'll have access to everything a traditional, offline seminar offers and more: informative videos, handouts, downloads, and an opportunity to chat live with the instructor plus other students. To pre-register for this course, visit http://www.justoutsourcing.com/wp.

Many times, outsourcing???s rewards can escape us when we???re consumed with a myriad of business tasks. But this only means we need to investigate it further. Nicole???s seminar is your pathway to exploit those rewards, so sign up and reserve your seat today.

I???m talking about the other one... the one that raises doubt:

??????But you know, cheap labor always accompanies poor work.???
??????But you know the saying, ???You get what you pay for.???

It???s hard to convince the consumer-conscious American otherwise. But as my off-and-on again virtual boss, Ian Ippolito, explained, there???s a discrepancy behind those claims that warrants attention... even for the $3.21 dollar-an-hour job.

But $3.21 Dollars an Hour Is Nothing

That???s true in the United States. It???s also an illegal pay rate here. But it???s not an illegal pay rate in a country like India. $3.21 US dollars is roughly equal to 145 Indian rupees1. A short, three hour programming job2 at $3.21/hour yields a sweet 435 Indian rupees ??? more than enough to spend a night out at one of the country???s fanciest restaurants or buy a 160GB iPod on sale.

$3.21 dollars an hour is nothing to Americans. But it is something to some foreigners ??? something that many are willing to work hard for.

But What About Quality?

That???s a good question even if it???s the wrong one. As an outsourcer, you should always be concerned with quality. The right question is ???What should I expect for that amount???? because a $3.21 dollar-an-hour job holds just as much weight as a 145 rupee-an-hour job, abroad. And if an Indian employer expects quality results from a 145 rupee-an-hour job, there???s no reason why an American employer shouldn???t expect the same.

Price has never predicated quality with any consistency and it probably never will. You could, after all, spend several thousands of dollars and still end up with unsatisfactory results. What you have to learn are ways to ensure your standards are enforced in the work that you hire out at any price. Doing anything else simply lowers the bar.

??????But as they say, ???Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.???

Essential Outsourcing Process Series 1

Thinking about outsourcing, but have no idea where to start? In almost every industry exists the opportunity to outsource at least a few common tasks, and the result is always a lightened workload as well as an increase in profit. Tasks_97.xls itemizes the tasks that are common among a vast number of industries.

Refer to it when contemplating tasks and activities to outsource, and then insert your selected outsourcing provider next to each task. The included Prospect Database will help you keep track of your RFI and RFP responses.

This database is an Excel spreadsheet that will store your top 20 contacts and rate them according to built-in criteria. Further instructions provided as spreadsheet comments.

Outsourcing What If???s

What if an outsourcing opportunity granted your every wish? What would you ask for? The bare minimum? Everything under the sun?

Think about the following questions and see if they don???t remove some obstacles that you???re currently facing ??? or obstacles that you fear you???d have to face while doing the work all on your own.

Sure, it???s only ???pretend??? right now, but we can show you how to turn those business fantasies into outsourcing realities.

Aside from "outtasking" sounding like yet-another- buzzword, outtasking is a risky approach to "hiring out" work.

Outsourcing RFP Process

What do you do when you want to use Rentacoder, but you're stuck with a strict outsourcing RFP process? Employees who want to outsource a few work processes here and there might find themselves stuck in this red-taped predicament.
Outsourcing Questions

You might be surprised to learn we actually discourage some people from outsourcing. 9 times out of 10, some of the people we run into are the worst outsourcing candidates we???ve ever seen.

Hell ??? we???re not even appropriate outsourcing candidates. That???s why we don???t outsource even though we work in the outsourcing industry everyday!

Sound strange? It might not be after you think about the following outsourcing questions.

The outsourcing questions below address why some businesses approach outsourcing as a routine commodity and why other businesses shouldn???t touch outsourcing with a 100-ft. pole. We would be one of the latter. How about you? How will you answer these outsourcing questions? Your answers will determine your outsourcing-readiness.

Survey Reveals Outsourcing is Key

Part of our daily routine includes (a) scouring the news for companies about to fire employees as part of a cost reduction strategy and then (b) contacting those companies with onshore outsourcing information.

Today, we learned about a new Capgemini survey which demonstrates companies are thinking more about outsourcing. What we couldn't tell from the survey is whether the companies polled leaned toward onshore outsourcing or offshore outsourcing.

Our communication of course always encourages onshore outsourcing.

This survey was conducted by telephone within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Capgemini between April 29 and May 15, 2009, among 151 senior executives at Fortune 1000 companies. Capgemini survey highlights include:

Lawyers Can Be Barrier to Outsourcing

According to Out-Law.com, ???The International Association for Contract and Commercial Managers ( IACCM ) published research results claiming that nearly 60% of companies agreeing to complicated outsourcing deals sometimes fail to complete the contracts underpinning the agreements.???

???IACCM chief executive Tim Cummins said that the lawyers that help to draft the complex agreements can be responsible for their non-completion.???

One of the great things about RentACoder is that the site???s outsourcing contracts aren???t complicated with attorney injunctions. In fact, the site???s bid wizard makes building contracts so easy, anyone can outsource through the site without the need for a lawyer. Only in unique situations is legal counsel required and that uniqueness is generally restricted to corporate use.

The 4-Hour Workweek vs Outsourcing Through RentACoder

Curiosity is such a special gift ??? especially when it leads you to a process of improving whatever it is you do... like book shopping! I experienced the same when I decided to look at all the media-generated hoopla over ???The 4-Hour Workweek??? by Timothy Ferriss.

As far as I could tell, the book is about outsourcing of sorts. At the very least, it???s about hiring others to reduce your workload. Since that is, after all, one of the benefits of outsourcing, I was curious about the thing...

About the Book

Welcome to Outsourcing Through RentACoder. We???re so excited to have published the first book about online outsourcing, it???s really hard to contain ourselves -- especially since we???re equally excited that you picked up our book. High five and thank you!

The online outsourcing community is simply ???Brobdingnagian??? (yeah, say that three times fast) and it???s getting bigger every day. That would be of course, a community that knows there???s a faster, better, and more economical way of achieving goals just as you suspected. But what do they know that you don???t?

Well they certainly don???t know any more than what you???ll learn from this book! With Outsourcing Through RentACoder, you have access to the same tools that Business Week, Computer Weekly, Forbes, and even more bigwigs have access to ??? ultimately making your goals as accessible as they are to anyone who wants to take advantage of what outsourcing has to offer.

Even better ??? these tools are accessible to anyone who wants to take advantage of what RentACoder has to offer. RentACoder is a fairly easy website to maneuver, however knowing how to work it effectively puts you way ahead of the game. That???s what this book does. This book shows you how to effectively outsource through RentACoder.

Just think of this book as your roadmap to outsourcing and RentACoder ??? a roadmap in which you can refer to time and time again at any point you feel lost or overwhelmed.

One thing???s for sure ??? ???outsourcing is loooong.??? And it would take you years to figure out all this stuff on your own, just like it took us years to figure it all out. Fortunately, you don???t have to learn it all on your own. Jump to page 18 and check off the first item. You???re about to accomplish your first task. Then come back here to learn more about what you???ll discover.

As RentACoder???s Internet Publicist

I thought I???d take some time to explain our new role in online outsourcing as described on our news page. As stated, DocuMaker (Nicole Miller) is RentACoder???s Internet Publicist.

Our ability to fulfill outsourcing contracts is therefore, pretty much diminished. In fact, we can???t and won???t take on any new projects that could interfere with our current daily tasks.

Small, unobtrusive projects may be fulfilled via DocuMaker???s resident writer or graphic artist. Large programming, writing, or design projects unfortunately, are out of the question. Our apologies for any inconvenience this transition may cause...

1-1/2 Hours a Day Keeps Competitors at Bay

In his "1001 Ways to Market Your Books" manual, John Kremmer recommends that a portion of an author's daily routine should be dedicated to promotion. You certainly don't have to be an author to realize the importance of his statement.

Neglecting to promote your business on any level is essentially planning to fail. The question is, how much of the day should we spend on promotion when there are so many other facets of business that need tending to?

In a recent unofficial poll1, 12.5% of 40 online entrepreneurs stated they spent half an hour of each day promoting their business while another 12.5% spent one hour (5% spent less than that). 17.5% spent two hours, 20% spent three hours, and 22.5% spent four hours. 14% spent all day promoting their business...

How to Test Your Outsourced Software

Here???s the scenario: Your hired software programmer uploaded a deliverable and you want to make sure everything works according to specs. After you download and install the submission, the program looks terrific and all the buttons ???do stuff.??? Is it ready for distribution? Should you go ahead and release payment for a job well done?

The answer is an unequivocal ???No way!??? A slick interface is a sign of well-designed programming, but the minute something doesn???t work right, all that work will be for naught ??? and once you sign off on the project, there???s no turning back. You have to take the time to check everything first.

Forget about the 4 Hour Work Week. Some things simply can???t be rushed, like software testing! Adequately testing your software could very well take longer than 4 hours. It could take 4 days for Pete???s sake, and the duration of testing depends on the complexity of the software and your penchant for detail.

Here???s how to test your software and make sure it works the way you want it to, prior to paying for it and releasing it to the public.

Welcoming Your New Service Provider

As an outsourcer, you play a critical role in how well your service provider performs his or her job, and a project???s success could very well depend on how you initiate its start.

Here are some tips that will help you begin and maintain a professional relationship with your provider for the duration of both a short-term and long-term project.

Contracting the Time Card-Resistant Service Provider

Every once in a while, I???ll run into the online rant against the use of a webcam enabled or screen-capture time card in outsourcing. Service providers will claim, ???It???s an invasion of my privacy,??? ???I???m a freelancer ??? not an employee,??? or ???I should be trusted ??? why don???t they trust me to work on my own!????

One service provider I encountered went so far as to claim time-cards put the provider in the position of an employee, and therefore entitles the provider to health benefits and access to things like 401K plans.

As a time-card using service provider, I thought I???d address these concerns in an effort to not only squelch some of the misinformation and privacy fears floating around the internet, but also give outsourcers advice on how to contract the time card-resistant service provider.

Please note that in addressing these concerns, I???m discussing the online time card used at RentACoder (now, vWorker). There are many different types of time cards that operate differently than the one I???m referring to, so some of this information may not apply to those who use another independent contractor resource.

Guarantee Originality in Outsourcing

With original material, you don???t have to be the first. You only need to be the best.

One of the biggest concerns in online outsourcing is the worry over whether we???re buying original content.

We all know original content is what attracts website visitors, but as the push for more and more content increases at rates faster than before, it???s easy to understand why plagiarism is on the rise. Not only do people want ???stuff???, people want that ???stuff??? now.

Service providers do the best they can to accommodate the demand, but the temptation to fulfill a contract at whatever cost could put the outsourcer at risk via plagiarized material. If you???re facing the same concerns with your outsourced projects, check out these tips on how you can guarantee content that???s exclusively yours.

Online Certificates via ExpertRating

Lacking a degree? Online certificates can verify your expertise just as well.

Since people tend to support marketers they trust, it's in your best interest to prove you know what you're talking about -- especially if you're trying to establish yourself as an online expert.

Fortunately, you don't need an expensive four-year degree to do that.

Through an online program called ExpertRating, you can prove your knowledge about a huge range of subjects and the best part about it all is that this program is well received among many -- including corporations.

Payment Options

Due to a disagreement with PayPal???s verification procedure, the outsourcing services and products available at this website are now purchasable through vWorker, Moneybookers, and Payoneer only.

The option to purchase DocuMaker???s services or products through PayPal is no longer available ??? nor will it be available in the future.

PayPal???s decision to restrict access to funds based on bank account access is a bit too invasive for our taste, so we decided to bring aboard two newer, less invasive e-commerce solutions that operate similar to the way PayPal operates (minus the encroachment, of course).

Note this decision does not affect you if you purchase DocuMaker???s service items through vWorker (formally RentACoder). vWorker is a 3rd party online marketplace for contracted employment that accepts PayPal payments on our behalf. This decision will only affect you if you purchase Documaker???s service items or products outside of vWorker. Please accept our apologies if this decision inconveniences you. Fortunately, Moneybooker and Payoneer operate similar to the way PayPal operates, so the change shouldn???t be too troublesome. Here are some things you should know.

Dealing with Difficult Workers

It would be nice if we could have a flawless working relationship each and every time.
However, in the real world, things go wrong and mistakes are made. And workers will rate your behavior based on how you respond to a problem.
The important thing to realize when dealing with upset workers, is that you must deal with their feelings first, then deal with their problem, second.

Upset workers are liable to have strong feelings when you or your job is frustrating. If you don???t address the feelings first, emotions will interfere with later problem solving strategies.

Here are 5 ways you can deal with a difficult worker.

Motivate Your Workers

There aren't any particular set of rules you should follow to motivate workers. We each have our own driving force when it comes to doing an excellent job at work.

Children, who serve as inspiration to succeed, could motivate working mothers, for example. The compulsion to learn and climb to the top could motivate recent college graduate workers. And financial rewards could motivate others.

As a sole employer or an outsourcing manager, you can facilitate your projects??? success by creating a motivated workforce. Here???s how.

Managing Small Outsourced Projects

Project management and outsourcing go hand-in-hand. The problem with project management is that it often accompanies tons of paperwork and overhead.

That???s why so many people try to avoid it ??? especially for small outsourced projects.

They think a small outsourced project doesn???t warrant the same management procedures that a large outsourced project does. And in a sense, they???re right.

A small outsourced project will certainly benefit from project management. It just doesn???t need the same extensiveness of a large outsourced project. But don't think that because you're managing a small outsourced project, you can ditch it.

Completely eliminating project management is a sure-fire way to guarantee a total mess. Here???s how to manage small outsourced projects without going crazy.

Outsourcing Through the Time Card Interface

Running a small business is challenging. We???re constantly performing a wide variety of tasks which could probably be defined as ???everything.???

Thing is, a portion of that ???everything??? doesn???t always contribute to business income.

Outsourcing Collaboration Tool

The Outsourcing Collaboration Tool can help you keep track of your online outsourcing projects and online independent contractors. It's in permanent beta stage, but you're welcome to download it and give it a test run. It may serve your purposes as is, as described in DocuMaker's 'Outsourcing Through RentACoder' textbook. If not, simply remove the program from your computer. If we get enough queries, we may take the program out of its permanent beta stage and work to improve it.
